Ambassador of Maldives to Türkiye, Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef met with Mr. Onur Kağan Yılmaz, Country Manager of STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş., at the Embassy of Maldives in Ankara.

During the meeting, Mr. Yılmaz briefed Ambassador Abdul Raheem on STM’s ongoing projects and areas of expertise in the defense sector. The discussion also explored avenues for future cooperation in defense technology and training.

Ambassador Abdul Raheem welcomed the opportunity to engage with STM and expressed appreciation for the invitation to attend the International Defence Industry Fair (#IDEF2025) and visit STM’s exhibits.

Members of the Maldives-Türkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye undertook an Official Visit to the Maldives from 28 June to 2 July 2025. The delegation was headed by Hon. Dr. Ümmügülşen Öztürk, Chairperson of Maldives-Türkiye Interparliamentary Friendship Group and Deputy of İstanbul, and the accompanying members included, Hon. Prof. Dr. Filiz Kiliç, Deputy of Nevşehir, Hon. İsmail Çağlar Bayirci, Deputy of Kütahya, Hon. Fatma Serap Ekmekci, Deputy of Kastamonu and Hon. Kayıhan Pala, Deputy of Bursa. Upon arrival to Maldives on 28 June 2025, the delegation was warmly received by the Chair of the Maldives-Türkiye Friendship Group, Hon. Mohamed Sinan, MP for North Hithadhoo Constituency of the People’s Majlis.

During the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office. The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and held discussions with the Foreign Relations Committee of the People’s Majlis.

Additionally, the members engaged in a series of activities aimed at strengthening parliamentary relations and promoting mutual understanding between the two nations. The programme included a visit to Tree Top Hospital, observing a Parliamentary sitting, and touring the People’s Majlis. The delegation further met with members of the Maldives-Türkiye Friendship Group and enjoyed a cultural excursion to Dhiffushi Island.

The delegation also held meetings with senior government officials, including the Minister of Health, Hon. Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and the Minister of State for Tourism and Environment. In addition, they visited the National Museum to learn more about the Maldives’ history and cultural heritage.

The visit concluded on 2 July 2025, marking another milestone in the continued friendship and cooperation between Türkiye and the Maldives.

Ambassador of Maldives to Türkiye, Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef met with the President of the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK), H.E. Prof. Erol Özvar, in Ankara.

During the meeting, Ambassador Abdul Raheem and President Özvar exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the field of higher education between the Maldives and Türkiye. The discussion focused on opportunities for academic exchange, institutional partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives.

Both sides expressed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in education to support the development of human capital and knowledge-sharing between the two countries. Ambassador Abdul Raheem was accompanied by First Secretary, Aminath Shazly Saleem and Attache' Dr. Mohamed Aslam.
